Goulash! My first step by step food blog post! So simple to make, delicious and inexpensive!

Hi everyone! Well, here I am posting my first blog on this site. I figured I'd post a recipe my mom gave to me years ago that I've tweaked a little over the years. Goulash is a very simple dish to make, it takes very little time, doesn't cost much and it can feed a few people to a large crowd! So what is goulash you ask? It's like a macaroni and cheese, but with tomato sauce! And let me tell you, it's a comfort meal at it's best. Follow all of the steps below and you're well on your way!

(My moms original recipe didn't include cheese and she would add some diced tomatoes throughout. The choice is all up to you, but I sure do enjoy it more with some good old crispy cheese)

What you will need: (this will serve 3-4 people, double the recipe and use a larger baking dish for a bigger crowd)

9.25X13.25 (3 quart dish)

1/2 pound-1 pound of ground beef (depending how much you'd like)

1 package of No Yolks noodles (300 grams)-you can use macaroni as well, but you won't need a full package

200 grams of mild or medium cheese

3 cans of tomato soup (Campbell's works best because it has a thicker consistency to stick to your pasta and beef, but you can use whatever tomato soup you have on hand)

1/4 cup of ketchup

salt and pepper

Start off by preheating your over to 400 degrees F. Turn your large burner on medium heat and cook your ground beef with olive oil in a medium sized pot, add salt and pepper and cook until brown. While your beef is cooking, bring a large pot of water to a boil and add your No Yolks noodles. Your noodles will only need a few minutes, as they will finish cooking in the oven. Once your meat is brown, add one can of tomato soup.

Once you have drained your noodles, put them back in the same pot you boiled them in and add your ground beef mixture. Next, add your other two cans of tomato soup. You can always add another can if you like it more saucy.

After you stir both together, add your 1/4 cup of ketchup and stir once more.

Transfer to greased baking dish and top with cheese.

Bake at 400 for 20-25 minutes, I like to put the oven on broil for the last couple of minutes to crisp the top. Once out of the oven, sprinkle a little bit more salt over top and serve.

The result may not be the prettiest, but the flavour is delicious!
